Discover 3rd Culture's exclusive Kilims, meticulously handcrafted in the heart of western Turkey's Bergama region. Each piece in our collection is a testament to the skill and dedication of the women artisans from a local association led by the esteemed state-accredited master kilim weaver, Kadriye Yakar. For over two decades, Yakar has not only been a beacon of artistic excellence but also a pivotal figure in empowering the women of nearby villages through training and employment opportunities.
Our kilims are woven with a profound respect for tradition and a keen eye for contemporary design, blending the rich heritage of Anatolian motifs with the symbolic Adinkra symbols from Ghana. The organic wool, dyed with natural colors, serves as the canvas for stories told through patterns - where the flying bird signifies the herald of good tidings and the vigilant eye shields the home from misfortune. The corner's ladder-like form, inspired by the 'Owuo Atwedee' symbol of the Akan people, contemplates the ephemeral nature of existence.
At the core of our project lies a commitment to social sustainability and the empowerment of women. Each kilim not only enriches your space with a piece of cultural dialogue but also supports the livelihoods of the women who bring these narratives to life.
